Alliance française de Singapour was founded in 1949. It is a non-profit educational organization, affiliated to the international network of Alliances françaises whose headquarters, the Fondation Alliance Française, are located in Paris, France.
Alliance française de Singapour is one amongst the 812 Alliances françaises worldwide (found in 137 countries) who serves and gathers a multilingual and multicultural community of Francophiles. Each year, it welcomes around 4000 students of all ages (from 1 year old onwards) eager to learn the French language and explore French culture. It is now hosting the General Delegation of Alliances françaises of South East Asia, making it the flagship of the region.
For many years, Alliance française has offered a great array of performing arts events in its theatre as well as various visual arts exhibition in its gallery becoming a renowned cultural destination.
In the buzzing evolving Singaporean cultural landscape, Alliance française continues to contribute in its modest fashion to the regional influence of the cultural scene of the City-State by positioning itself as a place of artistic expression for emerging artists of all discipline.
It now articulates its cultural programming around three major events: the renowned Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, the Francophonie Festival and the French Animation Film Festival, all jointly organized with the unfailing support of Institut Français Singapour, Ambassade de France. Added to these major events are the Music Fest (Fête de la musique), Bastille Day, the Ciné-Club, the Ciné-Kid, and Ciné-Plus. Lastly, we also offer social events where our public can enjoy a taste of French flavors while using the French language.
Alliance française cultural and educational programming is extremely rich but coherent in achieving its goal: to create a desire of France (and French) to an everlasting greater community of people whose strength is built from cross-cultural understanding which is at the heart of all dialogue.
