Job Description

Overview:

As a member of the crop science team, you will play a critical role in the R&D to expand crop varieties, and improve yield and quality of our crops. Your tasks will be to conduct literature review, design and implement experiments, collect and analyse data to constantly challenge assumptions and push the limits of current performance. It is important that you work well with a team and are comfortable working closely with farm engineers, farm managers and business development executives.

CROP SCIENTIST

Responsibilities:

  • Explore new ideas to improve crop health and yield through literature review and other resources
  • Design and conduct experiments to determine the effects of specific growing conditions on plant growth/development and convey findings to meet production goals
  • Monitor, investigate & identify problems with plant growth/development in the lab as well as the farm
  • Perform farm operations (seeding, transplanting, harvesting), basic lab operations (sampling and analysis), managing laboratory and farm equipment

Requirements:

  • At least 6 months of internship period
  • Knowledge in life science or physical science
  • Able to research new information including literature review, design experiments, solve problems using scientific methods
  • Humble team player who is enthusiastic, keen to learn, and hard-working

Good to have:

  • Research experience
  • Knowledge in plant physiology, plant pathology or experiments on plants
  • Variety in experiences, e.g. internships, competitions, CCA in different fields

DATA SCIENTIST

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure data integrity – identify outliers, review experimental procedures for potential sample
    biases, organise data for ease of retrieval and comprehension
  • Perform data analytics – employ statistical methods to determine the significance of changes in
    crop yield or health in response to different experimental parameters
  • Explore new applications of data science technology, e.g. IoT, machine learning, automation, to improve data collection and data interpretation at the lab and the farm
  • Perform farm operations (seeding, transplanting, harvesting), basic lab operations (sampling
    and analysis), managing laboratory and farm equipment

Requirements:

  • At least 6 months of internship period
  • Basic knowledge in data analytics, data science, or scientific data management
  • Understand statistical methods in data analytics and able to employ suitable methods for different situations
  • Humble team player who is enthusiastic, keen to learn, and hard-working

Good to have:

  • Research experience
  • Proficiency in Python or R programming language
  • Experience in analysis of large, complex and dynamic datasets
  • Application of data science skills in projects, competitions, extracurricular activities etc.

FOOD TECHNOLOGIST

Responsibilities:

  • Review fresh produce processing and packaging technologies. Recommend relevant technologies to be tested
  • Test the properties of fresh produce, e.g. shelf life, packaging, sensory evaluations, to evaluate fresh produce scientifically
  • Train farm hands in vegetable processing and packaging while ensuring food safety and quality control.
  • Perform quality control through farm and product inspections. Investigate complaints from F&B and retail customers.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 months of internship period
  • Knowledge in food technology or food science
  • Basic understanding of current packaging technologies, especially in fresh vegetable produce
  • Humble team-player who is enthusiastic, keen to learn & hard-working

Bonus Requirements:

  • Research experience
  • Experience working in a food production, food supply chain, and food service industry
  • Variety in experiences, e.g. internships, competitions, CCA in different fields
