Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cake Assembly:

  • Stacking: Assist in assembling multi-layer cakes, including leveling, filling, and stacking layers to create a stable and visually appealing cake.
  • Crumb Coating: Apply a thin layer of frosting (crumb coat) to seal in crumbs and prepare the cake for final decoration.

2. Cake Decorating:

  • Piping Techniques: Learn and apply various piping techniques for borders, flowers, and other decorative elements using different types of icing and piping tips.
  • Fondant Work: Assist in covering cakes with fondant, and assembling fondant decorations such as flowers, figures, or custom designs.
  • Smoothing and Finishing: Apply final layers of frosting or fondant to achieve a smooth, professional finish on cakes. Use tools to ensure even surfaces and clean edges.

3. Design Implementation:

  • Design Replication: Follow specific design instructions and templates to replicate custom cake designs as requested by customers or for special events.
  • Creativity: Contribute ideas and suggestions for new designs and decoration techniques, while adhering to the bakery’s style and standards.

4. Quality Control:

  • Inspection: Review cakes for visual and structural quality, ensuring they meet the bakery’s standards before they are packaged or delivered.
  • Adjustments: Make necessary adjustments to decorations or assembly to correct any issues or to enhance the overall appearance of the cake.

5. Preparation and Setup:

  • Tool Organization: Set up and organize decorating tools and equipment, including piping bags, tips, spatulas, and molds.
  • Ingredient Handling: Assist in preparing and handling decorating ingredients, such as buttercream, fondant, and edible decorations.

6. Sanitation and Safety:

  • Cleaning: Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment. Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to prevent contamination.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to safety procedures when handling equipment and ingredients to ensure a safe working environment.

7. Team Collaboration:

  • Communication: Work closely with other team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow and effective problem-solving.
  • Support: Provide support to other decorators and bakers as needed, including assisting with additional tasks during busy periods.

  • Are a driven, hard and efficient worker, and you're willing to learn
  • A diploma/degree in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry Arts is advantageous, or have handled fondant/clay before
  • Effective communication skills.
