Job Description

The Operations Manager has accountability for the management, planning, directing and controlling of all activities within the Laboratories in Southeast Asia, ensuring the delivery of high quality and cost effective service to customers and in the process ensure that all compliance, operational, contractual and financial objectives are met.

The Operations Manager will demonstrate leadership of the Laboratory team that creates an environment of process improvement, consultation and communication that is reflected in improved operating policies and procedures, ensuring that the Laboratory has a world-class reputation for providing testing services.

  1. As a member of regional management team, develop and deliver the business unit financial budget
  1. Develop operations targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), consistently demonstrate the leadership values required to lead and motivate laboratories and support staff to deliver best services to customers. Ensure that customer issues and/or complaints are managed proactively and resolved effectively and within acceptable;
  1. Drive the Find a Better Way programme through active, consistent and enthusiastic participation. The role is critical in ensuring that the application of Continuous Improvement principles is consistently applied across all areas of our business. Required to regularly facilitate problem solving sessions that determine the root cause of problems and to identify how to remove those root causes;
  1. Lead and ensure laboratories use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) efficiently, and consistently drive for continuous improvement of the system;
  1. In conjunction with laboratory managers, manage and improve the conditions of instrument, consumables, and anything requested to ensure daily operations. Manage the relationships and contracts with key suppliers;
  1. Manage costs in line with the budget and business plan and proactively drive cost saving. Plan CAPEXs on annual base and execute within budget;
  1. Provide monthly reports outlining progress against strategic objectives and a review on business and financial performance, including cost variances, revenue, resource usage and human resource management. This will require analysing the cost and profitability by customer and service on a monthly basis against budget and cost models;
  1. Work with Quality Manager and Technical Manager, ensure that all laboratory systems, including technical and quality procedures are aligned with company requirements, and deployed consistently cross SEA and maintained up to date;
  1. Champion and implement a cycle of continuous improvement in Health & Safety and lead by example, ensuring that Health & Safety is a business priority. 

 

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification scientific disciplines preferably in Chemistry, Microbiology or Food Science
  • Food Production or Manufacturing background preferred. 
  • Must be competent in the management of a service orientated business
