CaptionCube is a social enterprise that provides transcribing and captioning services to convert what is spoken into text so that learners with hearing loss can understand what is being taught in the lecture/seminar videos. With more communication accessibility built into the lifelong learning journey, this can lead to enhanced employability and better job opportunities for learners with special needs as well as the mature population.
Captions not only benefit deaf/hard-of-hearing learners, they enhance the learning experience for all through improving viewer recall, retention and comprehension. They also help to make your videos more discoverable and accessible, and expand the size of your reachable audience.
With our web-based crowd-sourced transcribing platform, CaptionCube aims to provide meaningful, freelance transcribing job opportunities for persons who require flexible working hours due to family or health conditions e.g. physical disabilities.
Job Description
We are a newly established social enterprise, if you believe in applying yourself to create social impact and making a difference through practical actions, here’s a good place to be. Every idea, every effort in your internship will help to pave foundations in building a more inclusive environment.
Work directly with the co-founders in our cozy and café-styled home-office that is just a stone-throw away from Pasir Ris MRT. Free flow of coffee and tea and of course FREE WIFI! Expect to work hard and play hard and grow together! We make a point to get some exercise together once every 2 weeks!
Key responsibilities:
• Manage transcribing and video captioning projects
• Work with our team of freelance transcribers to ensure work is delivered on time with quality
• Edit work that is completed by the transcribers and ensure quality is produced
• Research and test ways/softwares to improve the efficiency of the transcribing and captioning process
• Support transcribing and other administrative work
• Help manage ad-hoc events
• Support and test our new web-based platform
Requirements:
• Meticulous and good listening skills, able to listen to lecture/seminar videos and ensure that transcripts/captions are provided accurately

If you are keen to gain experience and insights into the training/education and the social enterprise scene, this position offers you a lot of exposure if you are willing to work hard! Mid-career switchers are welcome and there is opportunity to convert to a full-time position after the internship if you perform exceptionally well.

• Familiarity with using post-production video editing softwares
• Experience with fan-subbing, subtitling, transcribing or translation work
• Background in linguistics
