We are inspired by stories from  Asia and are committed to publishing diverse, well-written, and beautifully illustrated comics of all genres,  both print and digital. We would love to work with writers and illustrators, both new and experienced, to contribute to the growing Southeast Asian comics community.  

Job Description

As a Communications & Outreach Intern with Difference Engine, you will be part of a small and dynamic publishing team. Your main responsibility will be to assist our business development and marketing teams in identifying and cultivating new partners for our DE publications. 

Through your role, you will gain first-hand experience in the business side of publishing companies and work with editors and designers to create exciting promotional initiatives. You will be able to observe how books are developed, designed, and published. When needed, you will be asked to assist with our events at bookstores, literary festivals and comic conventions. 

We value self-starters who are open to learning (including new software and processes) and figuring out different ways to solve problems. 

DE currently has a hybrid working arrangement.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in identifying and cultivating partners for DE publications through research and data analysis
  • Draft copy for collaterals and pitch decks for corporate and distribution partners - Maintain accurate database for corporate and distribution partners 
  • Assist in conceptualising and coordinating promotional activities for DE publications

Requirement: 

  • A good command of the English language; impeccable grammar 
  • Strong interest in reading and storytelling (books and comics; print and digital)
  • Creative and analytical, and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Able to work after regular office hours and on occasional weekends for book events and launches 

Bonus: 

  • Experience in photography, data visualisation software and/or HTML
  • Strong interest in storytelling, reading Sing Lit and/or Southeast Asian literature, and comics
