Job Description

Scope of work of a SAP Senior Consultant - Cross Application (SAP Basis and Infra) includes:

a. Support internal Basis team in migrating and setup, upgrading, configuring and administering core SAP platforms (ECC, BW, Portal, Fiori) of the entire landscape and maintaining and bug fixing them during project phase and in the run-in and warranty period. 

b. Documenting project documentation like Cutover Detailed Activity and Checklist before the start of the migration and upgrade so that the client knows the state of readiness. Document Installation/Migration/Upgrade Reports including configuration steps with screenshots of all the step-by step procedures for all the systems worked upon/assisted. Update or recreate technical documentations of new and existing landscape that minimally includes System Landscape, System Hardware Architecture & Sizing Specifications upon request by the client. 

c. Setup and maintain Solution Manager in SLD, LMDB and EWA. Technical Monitoring. Explore and support if requested, other Solman functionalities e.g. Service Desk, Incident Management and Change Request Management, Project Structure, Systems Recommendations, Usage Procedure Logging (UPL), Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA).

d. Setup SAP Fiori. Install, configure SAP Fiori and connect to other SAP systems. The setup includes installation of SAP Gateway with UI as well as components on backend systems to be installed.

e. Troubleshoot and resolve any technical problems (SAP and non Production Infra) reported. Track system defects reported by users. Ensure prompt resolution. Coordinate with vendors to resolve the issues if need be. 

f. Plan, prepare servers and setup tools, work with functional teams for scenario and data preparation and execute performance/stress test if needed during project. The staff is required to assist in tabulating and analysing the test results and document the Performance Report. 

g. Perform yearly synchronising of Development (Dev), Quality Assurance (QA) dual landscapes for SAP SPS upgrade. Perform yearly SPS upgrade and Kernel upgrade for the SAP systems (including Production systems).

 h. Provide SAP Basis Administration including system, database and technical support services; implementation of SAP system upgrades, patches and snotes; investigation of SAP system slowness and tuning if needed; handling of short dumps, managing of SAP databases and data growth. 

 i. Set up and administer SAP clients and database, Remote Function Call (RFC) connections, performing database checks, scheduling/managing batch jobs with inputs from functional teams, applying SAP Online Service System (OSS) notes, generating developer’s key, configuring system parameters, starting / stopping SAP (upon approval), transports, data and files housekeeping, facilitating Common Operating Environment (COE) testing, setting up and managing user accounts for the functional teams in the non production systems. 

j. Administer and maintain the Infrastructure for SAP and related systems.

k. Perform daily inspection and provide maintenance support for the hardware in the non production server rooms. Report any visible infrastructure, hardware and aircon issues. Coordinate with vendors for resolution of hardware issues. When needed, schedule and perform hardware shutdown and startup to facilitate infrastructure, power, aircon, facility maintenance and send notification to the relevant teams.

l. Support the functional team in the non production environment including on-boarding new team members and off-boarding members leaving the team.

 m. Assist in backup & restore of SAP systems and databases using Netbackup and monitoring the daily backup to make sure that the system can be restored 100%.

 n. Download and apply SPAM / SAINT / SUM updates, support packages, snotes. For SAP security, review, download and apply monthly RSCENOTE. Ensure that any impacts to the non production systems are being addressed and resolved. 

 o. Download and patch / upgrade the OS, Virtual Machines, Servers, Database, Antivirus of non production systems monthly. Support preventive maintenance (i.e. patching) activities in the production systems upon request. 

 p. Document and maintain documentation of systems / landscapes and installation / technical / operation guides.

 q. Occasional support of SAP production systems upon request.

 r. Upon request, assist the Client with hardening the servers and databases based on the hardening guide provided by the Client and to provide screenshots to pass to the Client for Vulnerability Assessment.

 s. Providing Basis support for all Unit tests, System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Integration test, System testing, Load and Stress Test, Performance test and Cutover for all activities. This includes assisting functional developers and consultants with development activities, problems and questions. The awarded staff shall also support training, test and go live sessions with SAP client preparation, SAP system readiness, accounts provisioning, client refresh and restore, frontend and network access for the users. 

 t. Creation and provision of consultants, developers and users accounts and authorization role assignment to accounts in non production SAP systems.

 u. Ensure that all signed transport request forms are properly filed and kept for future audit reference.

 v. Propose, document and work with the Client’s Programme / System Manager to implement improvements to the current work processes to mitigate issues.

 w. Perform data housekeeping for all systems in the non production environment.

 x. Setup batch jobs if required during the contractual period.

 y. Support DSTA internal Basis team on Preventive Maintenance and upgrade activities in production environment when required.

 z. Ensure the respective system Contractor’s conformance to established policies, standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including program, documentation and transport request in the non production environment.


Required Competencies

a. The candidate should have good knowledge and skillset in the following platforms and applications:

i. SAP Systems installation, configuration, upgrade, patching, administration and monitoring (SAP NetWeaver 7.x, SAP Solution Manager 7.x, SAP ECC 6.0, SAP Fiori ). 

ii. Database (such as SAP HANA, ORACLE and Sybase ASE Database).

iii. Operating Systems (Windows Server 2012/2016 and Linux).

iv. Various methodology of SAP system cloning / copy (Heterogeneous / Homogeneous).

v. SAP backup and restore procedures for database-specific and OS-specific systems.

vi. To be skilled in SAP Upgrade (with DMO to HANA).

 b. Ability to work independently and efficiently, managing timelines and expectations and producing high quality deliverables and support with minimum supervision. 

 c. Good planning and coordination skills.

 d. Good team player, responsible and conscientious.


 Required Working Experience


a. Minimum three years in the area of SAP Basis and having done client copies, system cloning / copy (Heterogeneous / Homogeneous), transport management, user accounts management, backup / restore of SAP systems. 

b. Experience in installation, configuration, and maintenance of core SAP platforms of at least ERP, Portal. Experience in maintenance of SAP Fiori is required. 

c. Minimum two years experience in IT infrastructure, systems implementation and support. 

d. Experience in SAP Upgrade with DMO to HANA is required.
