Our vaccines facility at Tuas is a key manufacturing site withinour global network supplying the active ingredients used to make multiplepediatric vaccines. Tuas site was officially opened in 2009. To date, the site has played a key role in producing more than 800 million vaccines for pneumococcal diseases. Tuas has a workforce of more than 415 employees.


We are expanding operations at our Tuas site adding new exciting products to our production capabilities and becoming an even more significant part of GSK’s worldwide vaccines supply chain. Job Description

Intern - Operations (Ref: 359179)


What will you do?Supporting the Design, Execution and Operations Readiness Teams for Site Strategic Project for New Manufacturing Facility in GSK Tuas. The team is responsible to set up new operations and technology for Hepatitis B (HBV) drug substance product manufacture in Singapore. The interns will work under the supervision of the Design Lead / Execution Lead / Operations Lead or Senior Engineers and have opportunities to collaborate with other functions of manufacturing, process and technical engineers and process development scientists to provide support in the design of a new facility that will incorporate improved production process and state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies

  • Participate in design efforts of new equipment, infrastructure and processes in manufacturing (depending on specific workstream – Design / Execution / Operations)
  • Preparing for and support review of documents to support activities such as P&ID, safety and quality assessment, Steering Committee stakeholder meeting, etc.
  • Coordinate deliverables review efforts within local and global team members to meet project schedule
  • Help develop good working relationships within the team via team building activities 
  • Support document control activities
  • Be part of a large scale Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Project, develop a good understanding of Project Management in a Site Strategic Project
  • Develop critical communication skills with the exposure to stakeholder management spanning across Local and Global cross functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Technical Services, Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing Science and Technology, Process Science/Development, EHS, etc. as well as external parties such as Engineering Offices, Consultants, Contractors, etc. 
  • Understand the process science and process engineering aspects that comes with the design and construction and setting up of a new Manufacturing Facility, process and associated infrastructure. Technical knowledge in the manufacturing process i.e. Fermentation, Extraction and Purification, and equipment i.e. fermenter, centrifuge, ultrafiltration, chromatography, sterile filtration, etc


What are we looking for?

  • Educational background –
    Workstream 1 (Design) intern: Bachelor in Chemical/Biomedical /Electrical Engineering
    Workstream 2 (Execution) intern: Bachelor in Chemical /Biomedical Engineering
    Workstream 4 (Operations) intern: Bachelor in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering and who is interested in learning more about a manufacturing environment and vaccines
  • Proficient in use of IT and software/systems, ideally document management and database systems
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Positive and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and situations
  • Awareness and ability to work within culturally diverse teams
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think and work independently, and problem-solve
  • Strong drive for performance, deadline-driven and attention to details
  • A keen interest in biopharmaceutical product and manufacturing, and a passion for knowledge
