At Helm, we are building the most loved business control centre. We aim to put the power of technology into the hands of small and medium business operators.
We are building a product to help businesses operate confidently and quickly under intense pressure, starting with the healthcare sector. We handle our customers' operational, financial and healthcare data which sets the bar incredibly high for both the quality of our product, and the systems that power it. The level of trust our customers have in us is huge, and we move mountains behind the scenes to make sure our systems are robust, secure and reliable, whilst abstracting away complexity to provide a delightful user experience.
Our primary development stack is based on Typescript with React, and DynamoDB, with a typed auto-generated client between the API to help us ship quickly. For analytics, we use Python and Postgres. For infrastructure, we primarily use CircleCI, and we leverage AWS Server-less services heavily to help us with the heavy lifting. Most of us have a primary area of expertise, but we all work across the entire stack to some degree.
Our team is made up of experienced folks who have spent years writing reliable and scalable software and building product at scale for companies like Amazon, GovTech, Endowus and Funding Societies. As an intern, you will be mentored by a team that has scaled startups from 10 to 300 people. We are still very early in our journey, we have a tonne of things we want to build and we certainly have a lot to learn along the way!
You will be contributing directly to our growing components library, designing and building intuitive, delightful interfaces for new features. You should have an eye for design and be keen to solve real problems for users.
We are looking for candidates with a strong sense of intellectual curiosity and are passionate about being less wrong. You should have high energy and laser focus on delivering outputs. You often get double the work done in half the time most people think is reasonable. Rest assured that we value balance in life too - so we know the importance of taking breaks to recharge in the daily grind!
Since most of our work is written – from the code and interfaces we design, to the Slack discussions and proposals we make – being a good writer is important. Effective, concise writing leads to effective, concise code.
We are not big on credentials, so a Computer Science degree or graduating from a prestigious university is not something we spend much time looking at. We care more about what you can do and how you do it, not just the brand names behind you.
We care far more about your mindset and your ability to solve problems than your familiarity with the tools and languages, so please do not let that put you off from applying. It helps to be great at Googling (#1 life skill) and seeking out the right people to solve problems proactively.
