Cost Control Analyst (1 Year Contract, Shipping Company)

As Cost Control Analyst, you will be responsible for the financial reports and management reporting for Singapore, as well as maintaining and executing financial controls in compliance with Company policies, Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Cost Control Manager, in this position, you will have opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Cost Control
- Monitor, evaluate and analyse all Principal expenses with the aim of reducing costs and achieve savings;
- Standardization and consistency of cost reporting;
- Ensure timely approval of operational vendor expenses;
- Verify principal costs debited against the provisional expenses reported and justify the variances;
- Address queries from Principal timely;
- Ensure various monthly suspense accounts are reconciled following the timelines given by the Principal;
- Study related Principal incomes (land and logistics) and ensure maximization in terms of billings, collections and margins;
- Ensure that waivers of principal incomes (land and logistics) are properly approved and reduced where possible;
- Collaborate across functions and departments for compliant internal controls and effective costs and risks mitigation;
- Related tasks as assigned;
- Involve in vendor selection/evaluation process for Principal expenses.
Reporting and Deliverables to Management
- Prepare and/or compile various monthly suspense accounts reconciliation Report, including Electronic Cost Reporting ("ECR") correctly and in a timely manner;
- Prepare monthly Agency KPI data as assigned;
- Prepare Principal cost analysis and monthly analysis report to management and Regional Office;
- Proactively identify potential risks and mitigate risks with the relevant Head of Departments (HODs) and / or process owners;
- Work closely with internal / external auditors, tax agent and local authorities to resolve any local issues raised;
- Ensure proper audit trails for records according to statutory requirements.
Systems and Process Improvement
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to drive improvements and resolutions in end-to-end Cost Control processes;
- Identify system / process misalignments to drive standardization and improvement, raise request and follow-through to closure with System support;
Performance Management and Individual Development
- Develop performance measurements to drive individual and team performance;
- Serve as a coach/ mentor and provide technical financial advice and knowledge to the Cost Control team;
- Demonstrate commitment to professional self-development to employees in the Cost Control team;
- Identify and initiate improvement areas and develop good accounting control procedures and best practices to enhance overall cost control operations, work quality and efficiency;
- Support Cost Controller/ Cost Control Manager, Senior FM and Chief Financial Officer in new initiatives or projects as and when required.
Qualifications
Who We Are Looking For
- Min Degree in Accountancy / Finance, ACCA or Professional Accounting qualification equivalent;
- Minimum 6 to 8 years of relevant work experience in maintaining and executing accounting controls and reporting;
- Minimum 3 to 5 years from shipping industry / Liner or Agency shipping experience, managing related cost control and reporting an added advantage;
- Experienced in managing changes and thrive in dealing with challenging business environment;
- Good knowledge of IFRS and SFRS accounting standards;
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint;
- Experienced in using SAP financial system and related data flow;
- High level of Integrity and Ethics;
- Team player;
- Organised and meticulous with an eye for details;
- Problem Solving / Analytical skills;
- Ability to manage time well to meet tight deadlines and multi-task;
- Able to work under stress and adaptable to changes;
- Strong Communication & Presentation skills, both written & verbal.
