The Singapore Population Health Studies (SPHS) is a population-based health research initiative at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. SPHS aims to investigate the interactions between lifestyle, physiological, genetic and other omics biomarkers and their impact on health and longevity. In addition, SPHS will serve as a platform to monitor risk factors in the population and gain insight into determinants of health-related behaviours. For this purpose, SPHS includes over 50,000 adult Singaporeans and long-term residents from three major ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, and Indian), for a better understanding of disease aetiology in urban Asian settings, and the development of improved preventive and therapeutic measures for Singapore and other Asian populations.
We are looking for an energetic individual with a background in Biomedical Sciences/Nursing/Optometry or working experience in a research laboratory to fill the role of a Research Health Screening Assistant. The incumbent will be part of a team that performs health assessments and surveys on community-based research volunteers for the population health studies (https://blog.nus.edu.sg/sphs/joinf2) conducted by the SPHS unit of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, NUS.
The right candidate should have good inter-personal skills with the ability to interact with people of various age groups and backgrounds, has a proactive learning attitude and can thrive in a fast-paced environment, and is a good team player, meticulous and able to work independently.
Responsibilities:
- Administer consent before starting on the research procedures;
- Perform health examination procedures (e.g. Anthropometric measurements, Blood Pressure measurement, Retinal Imaging, ECG, Visual Acuity Test, Spirometry, Hand grip measurement);
- Perform venipuncture (only for certified phlebotomist);
- Conduct face-to-face surveys with research participants;
- QC screening data/results and prepare reports for mailing to participants;
- Perform accurate data entry and maintain proper documentation; and
- Perform any other administrative and data collection duties as per study requirements.
Timing:
- Monday to Friday (0745h to 1815h with 1hr lunch), except Wednesday, Sunday and Public Holidays
- Designated Saturdays required - 2 Saturdays each month (0745h to 1515h with 30min break)
