Job Description

Job Summary

As an Private Equity Analyst Intern, you will get a chance to learn by engaging directly in the sourcing and acquisition process of small-medium enterprises across various sectors, and geographies developing financial skills, strategic thinking, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Responsibilities

Market Research

  • Conduct comprehensive market research to identify potential industries and sectors for acquisition opportunities.
  • Identify and research target companies, evaluating them against our investment criteria.

Deal Sourcing

  • Assist in sourcing potential acquisition targets through databases, industry reports, outbound efforts, and networking events.
  • Take ownership of the deal sourcing process, including industry analysis and writing reports on interesting industries.
  • Reach out to potential companies for sale via email, mail, and phone calls.
  • Develop a robust pipeline of potential investment opportunities and prepare pre-meeting briefs for managing partners.

Financial Analysis

  • Assist in the financial analysis of potential targets, including creating financial models, conducting valuation analysis, and assessing investment returns.
  • Independently analyze basic metrics in financial statements and present findings to the management team.
  • Understand the relationship between the balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow statement to make sophisticated judgments on companies.

Due Diligence

  • Support due diligence efforts by gathering and analyzing information related to target companies, including legal, financial, and operational aspects.
  • Collaborate with external advisors and experts to ensure a thorough understanding of potential risks and opportunities.
  • Attend internal meetings, due diligence sessions, and, in some cases, meetings with business owners.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for each potential acquisition target, including investment summaries and reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and reports for the investment committee.
  • Write highly professional and personalized correspondence to business owners and draft concise investment memos. 

Ad hoc Support

  • Provide administrative support to the team, including scheduling meetings, coordinating communication, and managing project timelines.
  • Recruit, manage, and train other interns or contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a reputable undergraduate or postgraduate program (business, finance, or accounting) with strong academic achievement.
  • Knowledge of the Private Equity/Search Fund industry desirable; some exposure to CFA advantageous.
  • Strong interest in and understanding of business analysis and markets.
  • Proven experience in interpreting financial statements and performing qualitative analysis to understand industry or company overviews.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for a wide range of audiences, from investors to company employees.
  • Proficiency with basic productivity software (e.g., GSuite, Word, Excel, Hubspot, Zoho).
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • High level of analytical skills and the ability to operate in a continuously evolving and competitive business environment.
  • Native English speaker; fluency in Chinese/Malay/Tamil is a plus.
