Rakuten Asia Pte Ltd – Research Scientist Intern

As the Research Intern at the Rakuten Institute of Technology (RIT) Singapore, you will apply state-of-the-art research techniques to arrive at novel solutions to business problems in the domain of machine translation.

The team is working on a variety of NLP research and development projects that empower the globalization of Rakuten with multilingual NLP techniques.

Our vision is to become an integral part of Rakuten’s Global Platforms and our mission is to reduce language barriers for Rakuten’s international teams and their customers worldwide.

Responsibilities:

Research and development of cutting-edge NLP techniques, including but not limited to the following:

- Fundamental NLP techniques, particularly for multilingual settings (e.g. machine translation, cross-lingual NER, etc.)
- Multilingual Natural Language Understanding and Generation (e.g., sentiment analysis, question answering, question generation, product title/description generation, etc.)
- Advanced NLP techniques (e.g., pre-training language models, knowledge distillation, mixture of experts (MoEs) models, etc.)

Qualification:

- Master or PhD students from related areas, e.g., computer science, machine learning, mathematics, etc. PhD preferred.
- Good publication records in top-tier conferences, such as ACL, EMNLP, COLING, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI, etc.
- Good programming skills, familiar with deep learning models and major deep learning programming frameworks.
- Self-driven, innovative, collaborative, good communication and presentation skills.
