Job Description

Engineering Interns

Requirements:

  1. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an Institute of Higher Learning (i.e. university or polytechnic) in order to be accepted into our Internship Programme. 
  2. The proposed internship end date must not be later than the graduation date at the Institute of Higher Learning.
  3. If you do not have the right to reside and work in Singapore, you must apply for and obtain your own Work Holiday Pass (www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/work-holiday-programme) in order to be accepted into our Internship Programme. We will not apply for any Work Pass or Training Employment Pass for you.

General Requirements:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Online Suite such as SharePoint).

 

1) SRBD00 (Engineering - Business Development)

Be part of SAESLs' growth and be part of the following projects:

1) Capacity Projects - Be involved in the construction of a new building

- Be involved in the growth of SAESL to a new site in Seletar

2) Capability Projects - Be involved in Technology projects with Rolls-Royce and A*Star

- Be involved in Digital growth projects

You will learn and be exposed to the following:

3) The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisors

4) Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Proficient in MS Excel. Good to have proficiency in MS Project.

 

2) Operational Excellence (SRCI00) 

  • Lead the implementation of the SAESL Operating System (OS) and develop comprehensive metrics to assess its effectiveness across organizational functions
  • Actively engage in Kaizen initiatives, Lean workshops, and Cross-Functional Team (CFT) problem-solving sessions to drive operational excellence
  • Support and contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) projects by applying advanced Lean Six Sigma methodologies and tools, fostering process optimization and waste reduction
  • Participate in e-learning programs and specialized training on Lean tools and methodologies to enhance proficiency in continuous improvement techniques
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Microsoft Office. Preferred - PowerBI, Statistical software like Minitab

 

3) SRENOH (Engineering - Overhaul Support) 

Exposure:

  • MRO shop experience including build/strip, repairs and engine tests
  • Experience of working closely with RR large civil gas turbine engines
  • Chance of working with unplanned removal / event engines
  • Exposure to common service run defects on engine components
  • Exposure to industrial 4.0
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by engineers on specific data monitoring and projects
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor

Training:

  • On the job training (will be tagged to a senior)
  • Shop familiarizations
  • Process familiarizations

Requirements - Interest in MRO and having knowledge of programming language like visual basic will be a plus.

 

4) SRENLO (Engineering - Lineside Engineering Engine Overhaul) 

  • Implement (features, functionality) and maintain plant-wide Operations response system
  • Carry out data-analysis and provide inputs into improving existing processes from data collected in Operations response system
  • Develop and implement work instruction accuracy tracker using Power Automate and Sharepoint
  • Interns will support Line Side Engineers in reviewing and resolving technical issues from daily engine overhaul operations
  • Interns will be exposed to how parts are inspected, assessed and accepted through technical variance if found non-conforming. There will be also exposure on how the Line Side Team resolves operational line stops
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

5) SRENSP (Engineering - Special Process) 

  • Intern will be working with the metrology team on a large cost reduction project focused on calibration extension.
  • They will gain exposure to different types of measurement and applications in aerospace engineering and data analysis such as measurement system analysis, measurement uncertainty and repeatability.
  • Execute comprehensive metrology activities, encompassing precise measurement, inspection, and calibration processes to ensure adherence to technical standards
  • Perform detailed engineering reviews of technical drawings and engine manuals, providing critical support for production and maintenance workflows
  • Initiate, design, and lead the development of innovative metrology projects aimed at enhancing engine production and component repair methodologies
  • Conduct in-depth measurement system analyses to assess and optimize the accuracy, precision, and reliability of measurement systems and instrumentation.
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Visual Basic, Excel Macro, Microsoft Office, C#

 

6) SRENVE (Engineering - Value Engineering) 

  • Internship with SAESL Engineering allows the student to gain full industrial exposure with how aircraft engine is overhaul and repaired. At the same time, the student would have the opportunity to train on below
  • Looking for an intern with data science / engineering background who enjoys interacting with people. The role will manage / assist in the gathering of data for time study analysis of repair processes, while identifying potential process gaps for improvement at the same time
  • Opportunities to learn about aviation repair processes abound
  • Interns with knowledge in programming and data analytics may also be involved in the analysis of large unstructured data sets to assist in the improvement of dashboards.
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

7) SRPDQC (Engineering - Engine Data Services) 

Assist Engineer and Executive in their daily scope:

  • Projects on Engine Data
  • Projects on Time studies on various work tasks
  • Support Engine document accounting and packing
  • Work on improvements projects example using share point and Power BI
  • Assist the Engineer in engine documentation when engine investigation is conducted
  • Support Engine Lease Return activities when required
  • Participation in Airworthiness Audit.
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Proficient in VBA and data analytical skill is an advantage.

 

8) SRQDQS (Engineering - Quality Service) 

  • Oversee and maintain organizational procedures and the development of detailed process flow diagrams
  • Conduct comprehensive internal audits to ensure adherence to established protocols and standards
  • Provide critical support for external audit processes, facilitating smooth and efficient operations
  • Administer and manage the staff authorization system, ensuring proper access control and compliance
  • Review and evaluate vendor and customer quality questionnaires to maintain high standards of collaboration and service delivery
  • Analyze audit performance data to derive actionable insights for continuous improvement
  • Assist with the day-to-day operational functions of the Quality Department, ensuring smooth workflow
  • Collect and compile feedback and operational data for thorough review and analysis
  • Undertake various improvement projects, assignments, and process optimization initiatives
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Good in Microsoft office. Programming / Workflow automation is added advantage.

 

9) SRRPLB (Engineering - Laboratory) 

Internship (Metallurgical Lab)

Be part of the world’s largest Trent engines MRO – Engineering & Technology (E&T) Team to support and contribute to the SAESL Industry 4.0 journey, and deliver effective and sound solutions to ensure highest possible value to a customer base that spans across 6 continents.

This role is primarily responsible for all metallurgical lab works to support repair developments and process investigations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist lab officer(s) to perform quality control tests in the lab for repair development processes and process investigations. E.g. Coating microstructure evaluation, welding hardness testing, tensile strength testing, etc.
  • Update and maintain lab database for individual processes to record all test samples issued, received and evaluation results
  • Ensure proper storage and document of all test coupons and evaluation records
  • Maintain SDS database for chemical products utilized in lab
  • Ensure good housekeeping is maintained in the lab
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations and policies
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Knowledge in engineering with right aptitude will be considered, able to read and interpret work orders, high level of integrity, honesty and professionalism, proficient in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

 

10) SRCS99 (Engineering - Chemical Clean Line)

  • Work on Process Improvements pertaining to chemical cleaning, mechanical blasting and coating removal (waterjet)
  • Total Preventive Maintenance Projects
  • Standard Work
  • Time Study
  • Asset Care and help in Data Cards Creation
  • Perform Standard Work for Data Cards, 6S and TPM Projects
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements - Engineering knowledge.

 

11) SRPDEM (Engineering - Equipment Maintenance Service)

Responsibilities:

  • Review and implement the 8 pillars of TPM in one or two selected production work cell, overseeing various critical equipment, meeting all regulatory, statutory and organizational requirements
  • Review of equipment maintenance manuals to implement applicable equipment maintenance tasks, considering aspects such as safety, quality, delivery, cost and people
  • Facilitate equipment vendors providing maintenance services for maintenance scheduling and on-time completion, with oversight on performance and health and safety requirements
  • Obtain and review maintenance service reports and check sheets from equipment vendors, ensuring compliance, identifying errors and facilitate opportunities for improvement
  • Identify critical equipment spares and maintain inventory, performing periodic stocktaking
  • Take up short term projects in relation to TPM, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor in charge
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Learning objectives:

  • Implementation of the 8 pillars of TPM in an aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul industrial facility
  • Identification of improvement opportunities for the TPM program, taking into serious consideration aspects of safety, quality, delivery, cost and people
  • Understanding of applicable regulatory and statutory requirements, such as Singapore MOM, aviation Part-145, and ISO requirements.

Requirements - Student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from a reputable university or college; proactive, inquisitive and humble; able to work independently with moderate supervision, willing and able to work with people of diverse backgrounds.

 

12) SRTR00 (Engineering - Training & Development)

Interns assigned to the Training & Development department will gain the following:

1) Exposure to various training courses provided by T&D dept, such as Aviation regulations, Human Factors/Safety management System, Gas Turbine Engine/Rolls Royce Trent Engines which include site visit to various engine and component overhaul facilities

2) Task to handle/support various T&D improvement projects/activities, examples as follow:

  • Improvements to training contents and improvements (rigs) for Trainee Technician/Direct Technician training
  • Improvements to training materials (hardware, spares) management
  • Exposure to practical, classroom or online CBA assessments and interviews
  • Work on training facility upkeep and projects
  • Work with trainers in developing new training contents, materials and quizzes
  • Improvements to training facility (5S)
  • The intern will be attached to a senior on the daily tasks, as well as guided by supervisor
  • Assist in ad hoc stock take if required and any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

3) Support day-to-day training activities requirements, such as administering laptop required by trainees

  • Exposure to practical, classroom or online CBA assessments and interviews
  • Work on training facility upkeep and projects
  • Work with trainers in developing new training contents, materials and quizzes.

Requirements - Engineering, data analytic or digital media fields.
