Job Description

We are looking for highly motivated interns to support our research in advancing alloys for next-generation fusion reactors. Interns will engage in tasks ranging from foundational responsibilities like microstructure characterization (SEM/EBSD) and data preparation for high-throughput alloy screening, to advanced projects involving computational alloy design (CALPHAD, machine learning), electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) process optimization, and irradiation resistance testing. Our research focuses on developing defect-free, ductile alloys. This multidisciplinary work bridges materials science, additive manufacturing, computational modeling, and nuclear engineering, with the ultimate goal of enabling scalable and cost-effective solutions for fusion reactor plasma-facing components.

Interns eager to contribute to this frontier should ideally have a background in materials science, mechanical engineering, computational physics/chemistry, or related fields. We welcome candidates with proficiency in at least one of the following areas: metallurgy of refractory metals, additive manufacturing processes (especially EB-PBF), Python/ML for materials informatics. Most importantly, we seek interns with a strong drive to deepen their expertise in fusion materials or expand their skills into complementary domains (e.g., experimentalists learning computational tools or modelers gaining hands-on AM experience). This internship offers a unique opportunity to pioneer alloys that could redefine fusion energy’s feasibility, while collaborating with experts in both academia and industry.
