We are seeking a highly motivated intern to support the design and development of Joule heaters for 4D printing applications. In this role, you will work closely with our research team to explore and optimize heating elements that enable programmable shape changes in smart materials. The intern will focus on creating efficient, reliable Joule heating systems tailored for integration into 4D-printed structures.
Responsibilities:
Assist in designing and simulating Joule heaters for precise thermal control in 4D-printed components, ensuring material compatibility and performance consistency.
Conduct experiments to test heating efficiency, durability, and responsiveness, analyzing data to refine heater designs.
Support integration of Joule heating elements with shape memory materials, assessing performance across different environmental conditions.
Collaborate with the research team to improve heater designs through iterative prototyping and testing.
Document experimental methods, findings, and design improvements, contributing to technical reports and presentations.
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of thermal systems, materials science, and additive manufacturing processes.
Experience with simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS) and data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB) is preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a research-focused environment.
