The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a non-governmental, registered animal welfare charity with IPC status. We rely mainly on donations from our supporters to continue our important role as animal protectors.
Approximately $4,000,000 annually is required to run all our services including 24/7 emergency rescues, cruelty & welfare investigations, Singapore’s only community animal clinic, an adoption programme, education outreach, reuniting lost pets with owners, sterilisations for community animals, and a shelter for over 200 unwanted, abused or abandoned animals every month.
The Education Intern will assist the SPCA's education team in planning and executing educational programmes and events for children. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in event planning, curriculum development, and educational outreach. The intern will play a vital role in fostering a love and respect for animals among young audiences, and promoting humane education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Event Planning and Execution:
- Assist in the planning and coordination of a flagship event for children, focusing on animal welfare and humane education.
- Contribute to the development of event activities, including games, workshops, and interactive sessions, ensuring they are engaging and age-appropriate.
- Help with logistical arrangements, such as venue setup, registration, and coordination with volunteers and vendors.
- Programme Development
- Support the creation and rollout of educational programmes for children, including school visits, workshops, and holiday camps.
- Assist in designing curriculum materials, lesson plans, and educational resources that align with SPCA's mission and goals.
- Research and gather information on effective educational strategies and materials to enhance programme content.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist with administrative tasks related to education programmes, such as scheduling, coordinating with vendors and facilitators, and preparing materials.
- Provide on-site support during educational events, including assisting with setup, registration, and facilitating activities.
- Engage with children and parents, providing information and answering questions about animal welfare and SPCA's programmes
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Education, Child Development, Communications, or a related field is advantageous but not a requirement.
- Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to SPCA's mission.
- Experience or interest in working with children in an educational or recreational setting is preferred.
- Creative, enthusiastic, and able to engage young audiences.
