Job Description

We are a dynamic studio dedicated to creative reuse, where children and educators explore open-ended materials and embrace sustainable practices through hands-on learning experiences. Our studio is set up like a creative reuse centre, and we aim to foster curiosity, creativity, and a sense of community among all who participate in our programmes.

Role Overview:

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated interns to join our creative reuse studio team. This role is ideal for candidates with a background in early childhood education who are passionate about sustainable practices and creative learning. As an intern, you will assist in organising and facilitating workshops, preparing materials, and engaging with children and educators in a variety of creative activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and execution of workshops and sessions involving loose parts play, creative reuse, and other hands-on activities.
  • Prepare and organise materials for daily sessions, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for children.
  • Assist in guiding children through open-ended, explorative play experiences that promote creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop new ideas and activities that align with our studio's philosophy of sustainability and creative reuse.
  • Engage with children, parents, and educators, providing a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
  • Assist in maintaining the studio's creative reuse centre, including sorting, cleaning, and organising materials.
  • Observe and document children's learning processes and experiences to support reflective practice and continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education or an art-related field.
  • Strong interest in sustainability, creative reuse, and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Previous experience working with children, either in a professional or volunteer capacity, is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently as required.

Desired Dispositions and Personality Traits:

  • Creativity: Ability to think outside the box and develop innovative activities that inspire children.
  • Patience: A calm and patient approach when working with young children, recognising that every child learns at their own pace.
  • Curiosity: A genuine interest in exploring new ideas and materials, and a desire to learn alongside children.
  • Flexibility: Adaptability in responding to the needs of the children and the dynamic environment of the studio.
  • Empathy: A caring and understanding approach to engaging with children, recognising their individuality and needs.
  • Enthusiasm: A positive and energetic attitude, bringing excitement and encouragement to each session.
  • Responsibility: Reliable and committed to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all participants.
  • Reflectiveness: Willingness to reflect on one's practice and experiences, with a commitment to continuous personal and professional growth.

Benefits:

  • Hands-on experience in a creative and innovative educational environment.
  • Opportunity to work with a diverse team of educators and creative professionals.
  • Professional development opportunities and mentoring.
  • Exposure to sustainable practices and creative reuse methodologies.
