Company Profile
A theatre company with real soul, constantly seeking to create, innovate, and inspire, is the heart of Toy Factory Productions Ltd (Toy). Having risen from humble puppetry beginnings to the theatrical giant that it is today, Toy has firmly established itself as Singapore’s leading bilingual theatre company.
Constantly pushing the envelop in a relentless endeavor to create works that go beyond just entertainment, Toy has been stirring up audiences both locally and globally, participating in creative exchanges in Australia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Thailand and Russia, and sweeping 13 Life! Theatre Awards since the inception of the prestigious annual awards event in 2001.
A dedicated commitment to staging excellence has also consistently drawn rave reviews for its productions, including recent shows Titoudao, Cabaret and The Crab Flower Club - a Singapore Arts Festival 2009 commissioned work played to a sold out audience and restaged barely three months later for an impressive two-week run.
The electrifying success of the award-winning Titoudao and Chief Artistic Director Goh Boon Teck’s multi-cultural Japan-Asean collaboration Prism have propelled the homegrown theatre company into an ambitious ensemble with its eyes firmly set on the rest of the world. Being bilingual has also allowed Toy to address, perform and reach out to both English and Mandarin-speaking audiences, a role which has been immensely challenging, demanding yet ultimately rewarding.
Guided by its bold spirit and an attitude of risk-taking, Toy has been taking the arts to a new dimension with its exciting, thought-provoking and moving productions. As it rapidly and ceaselessly negotiates and continues to define its role as a theatrical heavyweight, it still strives to maintain its simple philosophy of the theatre being a platform for intellectual, educational, spiritual and joyful exchange.
