Job Description

Accounting Intern

Are you passionate about numbers, detail-oriented, and eager to dive into the world of accounting? We are seeking a dedicated Accounting Intern to join our team and support our financial department. Gain hands-on experience in financial management and reporting within the construction industry, including implementing financial controls, digital payment systems, and procurement and inventory management processes, while participating in cross-functional projects to enhance problem-solving skills.

 

The ideal candidate should be well-versed in accounting principles, comfortable working with numbers, and have a keen eye for detail. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting the finance team in implementing effective controls on all financial flows at TRACE and its associated entities, establishing timely financial reporting throughout the year.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable Management:

  • Assist management in developing a process for updating and maintaining an Accounts Payable and Receivable schedule. Assist management and finance staff to prepare the schedules for a first-cut basis
  • Aid in the company’s transitioning from cheque payments to digital payment methods by designing SOPs and supporting management to implement them

 

Financial Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Assist the firm in migrating from manual accounting practices to digital accounting on Xero. Work with finance team to aggregate necessary documents, and review with management on the treatment for each entry and their classifications for the firm
  • Candidate will be able to work with experienced management, trained accountants and BU leaders for this project
  • Help design and digitalize journal entries for cash and non-cash transactions to facilitate reconciliation and review cycles
  • Prepare, together with management, a monthly finance reporting cycle

 

System and Process Documentation

  • Aid in implementing new financial monitoring and reporting systems at both organizational and project levels. Create documentation for these new SOPs
  • Work with management to re-negotiate Trade Financing with banks based on available financial data and positions

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Relevant coursework or experience in financial management, accounting software (experience with Xero is a plus), and financial analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software
  • Strong attention to details and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to commit to a full-time 3 months internship
  • Immediate availability is strongly preferred
