VFlowTech (VFT) is reinventing energy storage with Vanadium redox flow technology, with a vision to develop the cheapest and most scalable Vanadium redox flow batteries in the world. VFT solution is proven to be one of the safest, most durable and environmentally friendly battery technologies.
VFT is a spin-off of the CleanTech lab of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and benefits from unique IP arising from many years of intensive research at NTU. VFT founders and management team have deep experience in the renewable space, and Vanadium redox flow technology.
VFT is passionate about powering tomorrow’s energy demands in a sustainable way. To achieve this, we believe in attracting great talent through the creation of a vibrant, progressive workplace that makes them our greatest assets. We’re always on the lookout for experienced and passionate individuals to be part of the team, working and collaborating effectively to make a positive difference.
Roles & Responsibilities
You will be working on the testing of our 5kW/30kWh flow battery systems to ensure that they are manufactured according to standard. All testing will be conducted under the supervisor’s instruction. The testing is split into the following major components:
1) Testing of all relays present in the components of the battery system (Inverters, Pumps, Fans, Valves, BCU - Battery Controller Unit)
2) Testing of inverters in their Off-grid (UPS) and Grid-Tied modes
3) Optimal charging test to obtain charging characteristic of the battery
4) Discharge test – to obtain threshold discharge values of battery system
5) Testing of protection functions
In addition to your work on testing the system, you will also be involved in electrical work such as soldering/wiring as well as electrical design. You will have the following responsibilities:
● Ensure that all necessary parameters of the battery system are tested to standards
● Sourcing and procurement of various electrical components
● Assist in any electrical wiring or modifications
● Keep a detailed record on all test results and to report any anomalies to supervisors
● Assist to chief power engineer in any electrical tasks as and when it is required
Learning Outcomes & Objectives
Our team will support the candidate by providing insight into the functions of the battery system. Training and supervision will also be provided in order for the trainee to fulfil his/her workscope. The following are the learning outcomes of this internship:
• Learn the various types of sensors and components used in flow batteries
• Learn the various protection components (BCU, EMS) and how they protect the battery from overcurrent, overvoltage.
• Learn about the charging and discharging characteristics of flow batteries
• Acquire knowledge regarding the entire flow battery system
