The intern is a support-level position. He/she supports the client servicing teams by working on task-oriented projects. An intern supports multiple account teams and must be able to efficiently service each of these teams. Interns must have excellent organizational skills and can adapt to multiple assignments and deadlines as well as an environment that change frequently. The focus of the position is on managing and developing media lists, editorial calendars, speaking calendars, media monitoring reports, briefing materials, etc.
Media Relations
- Provide daily media monitoring services to client with minimal supervision to meet tight deadlines
- Draft media relations materials such as media invitations, fact sheets, backgrounders, executive biographies, etc under supervision
- Develop and maintain media contact lists and databases
- Assemble press kits
- Research and maintain speaking/editorial opportunities and calendars
- Scan daily, weekly, monthly and on-line publications to identify client-relevant media coverage, including competitive market and industry information
- Utilise resources such as Relationship database, library services, publications, websites, etc. to understand the audiences, interests and preferences of relevant media outlets
- Coordinate logistics and schedules for media personnel regarding client events and projects through proactive outreach and/or on-site support
Client Servicing
- Schedule and coordinate meetings; keep participants advised of any changes
- Systematically and proactively file client-related materials and documents on behalf of the teams and update the teams on document locations
- Participates and/or coordinates admin for specific events, trade shows, promotions as required, for the clients
- Attends team meetings to understand workings of account team
- Prepare clip reports and summaries as needed by teams and clients for monthly reporting
Team Support
- Handles various other projects and acts as a resource for the client servicing teams, as required
- Conducts research for new business development
- Balances workload between accounts and account staff to ensure that all work is accurate and completed within established deadlines
- Continually updates supervisor on progress of activities
Qualifications
- University or Polytechnic undergraduate, preferably in Mass Communications
- Willing to undertake minimum internship of 3 months’ duration
- Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Good oral communication skills
- Ability to work as member of a team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to organise and prioritise work at all times, including high priority, and high pressure situation
