Xylem Ignite is a global youth initiative that seeks to build a strong network of passionate student leaders and empower them to drive real changes in the water industry. Through a series of activities (such as hackathons and incubation projects), we are creating a movement to enrol, ignite and nurture the NextGen Water Leaders.

Being part of the Xylem Ignite internship program, you will be involved in running this youth initiative for fellow students. Alongside with Xylem staff members, we shall empower the student communities to take action on real water issues that impact everyone. Xylem is passionate about engaging the next generation, and you have an opportunity to join that passion, to ignite our youth about water!

Job Description

The Xylem Ignite Intern is responsible for managing various aspects of the Xylem Ignite program including project management, event organizing, and digital marketing. The intern will play an active role to track project progress and drive deliverables in a timely manner. The intern will conduct marketing campaigns to increase the participation rate for our events and activities, as well as support the needs of program teams to drive events towards success. Through this internship program, the intern will learn good leadership and organization skills, gain personal coaching from Xylem Ignite team leaders, and will be exposed to various businesses within Xylem. The intern must be a driver, a facilitator, and a learner.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities: 

Project Management:

  • Drive delivery of project deliverables in a timely manner
  • Track project milestones and measure against success metrics
  • Submit bi-weekly reports on project progress
  • Communicate proactively with all work streams to anticipate problems, create solutions, and implement efficiency improvements
  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities to ensuring delivery targets are achieved

Marketing & Outreach:

  • Create and drive innovative digital marketing campaigns to attract students to participate in the events and activities
  • Mobilize Xylem colleagues, students, customers, and public to participate in social media campaign
  • Reach out to high schools’ water and environment clubs to introduce them to Xylem Ignite
  • Support the creation of marketing materials and content

Event Organizing:

  • Support the organizing of events and activities such as hackathons, innovation challenges, volunteering activities, Water Masterclass and incubation projects

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Deeply passionate about sustainability issues and strong interest in the water industry
  • Strong interest in marketing or have prior marketing and PR experiences preferred
  • Committed to develop strong leadership and communication skills to engage team members, resolve timeline or productivity issues, and keep the team focused on achieving project goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence to manage relationships with various stakeholders
  • Organized and show attention to detail
  • Desire to become a water ambassador to lead the community in solving water
  • Prior internship experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft tools suite preferred
  • Experience in remote work preferred
